Last month, I said that I was starting tretinoin and a lot of you messaged me asking about what that is. Tretinoin is basically the more potent (20x) version of retinol. Both belong to the retinoids family which means that they contain vitamin A derivatives. In general, retinol reduces pore size, improves skin texture and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. Tretinoin requires a prescription from a dermatologist whereas over-the-counter retinol can be found in a lot of skin care products. Tretinoin will show results much faster but if you want to ease into the retinoids family, over-the-counter products over 0.25% retinol are a great way to start. I recommend Zohraa Retinol Cream which is scent-free, non-greasy and packed with lots of really good ingredients. Overall, a great retinol starter if you don’t want to start with the prescription stuff.
As with any skin care, it will take weeks to see noticeable results. Note that you will most likely shed or experience redness which are common side effects. It is commonly said that your skin will get much worse before it gets better. You MUST wear sunscreen everyday and have a potent moisturizer paired with your retinol regiment.
